6.5x47 95 gr vmax loads6/14/2023 ![]() He did not listen to me on how much to lead the doe or the hold over. A buddy blew a doe in half with that gun and load, one day at about 400 yards. I was getting 3350 fps out that 26" barrel. Because they were so much longer and had higher ballistic coefficient, I tried dropping back to the 140 gr. If you compare them to something like a Sierra Game King in the same caliber and weight, the Ballistic Tip is much longer, because of the thick copper base and thick copper back half. ![]() Because they have thick copper bases and thick copper near the back half. The Nosler Solid bases and the Ballistic Tips were by far, back in those days, the longest bullets you would find for a given caliber and weight. ![]() Then later, with the Sendero, I switched to the 140 gr. Killed a lot deer and hogs out to some long ranges, first with the 150 gr. I switched to those, never had a problem out of my 7 Mags. Then when the Ballistic Tips came out, it was said they were basically the same bullet, just the plastic tip, to keep the tip from deforming, helping accuracy and ballistic coefficient. I used to shoot the Solid Base bullets way out there. I used to shoot 3/8" groups at 200 yards, out of my basically stock 7mm Rem. The ballistic tip, just kept the tip from getting deformed and gave more consistent accuracy. Those two really performed very similarly. Nosler Solid base bullets, which was Nolser's old boat tail, before the Ballistic tip.
